Joan Williams

I work out of a community studio in Austin and really enjoy the camaraderie and diversity of the other potters. I am interested in learning more about hand-building, altering my wheel thrown forms, and using texture in creative ways. Several years ago I had the idea of getting my pottery on every continent. I enlisted the help of traveling friends and within a year I achieved that goal. They took small pieces on their adventures and gave them to locals as they felt led. All I asked for was a picture and the story of why they chose the particular person. It was so much fun that I kept the project going. My work is now enjoyed by people in 23 countries and 27 states! My mission statement is "to send beauty and goodwill into the world through pottery". The next one goes to Zanzibar in June!
