Fascinated by the beauty of nature. Keen to be able to capture some of that fascination on paper, fabric, or photographic image.
I have worked with a range of media and techniques over the years - an important focus being impermanent ceramic - but my life has taken a detour away from creativity over the last few years. And I am keen to get back on track.
I have a very old website which is out of date, but does give a glimpse at the kind of work I have generated (including ceramic, photography, textile, glass).
I am no longer young, and yet I know I have much to learn, which is why Domestika is such an important resource for me.
My creative work at uni has been in glass and ceramic (BA and PhD levels) - I’m really a 3-D kind of artist, and now I want to find out more about 2-D creativity, and this is a real challenge. For instance, I am keen to learn watercolour techniques, and how to combine line (ink or graphite, maybe) with watercolour. Working flat feels very strange, as I yearn to pull shapes from the surface of any material I am using.
Also importantly, though, I am realising what a rich craft resource I am fortunate enough to have. I have worked - and played - with textiles since being a small child. And I guess that because I am so used to being confident in turning to sewing, embroidery, knitting etc., I have not given those craft skills the respect they deserve. They are really 3-D, but often start off as relatively flat surfaces.
So it is with great enthusiasm that I turn to this landscape design course.
Having recently moved house, In ow have a large garden to manage and act as custodian for., along with my life partner I only have basic 2-D artistic skills, as I mention above, but I want to find a way of recording the layout and character of our garden (which is quite large), because I recognise that it is an organic and dynamic entity, growing and changing, both with - and without - human engagement with it. I am sure that this landscape design course will help me to express it on paper (and then, maybe, I can translate that to textile as well!).
