I am linguistic with a sensibility in doing language investigation with the support of digital and computer technology. So far I have worked with existing computer tools for the transcription, grammatical annotation and translation of natural speech utterances and the creation of textual corpora and dictionaries, particularly in African languages. My wish is to develop my interest in using computers for language processing besides analysis. For this reason, I would like to specialise on computational linguistics. As a basic tool for doing this, I would like to use Python, and this is the reason why I have enrolled in the course Introduction to Python Programming. A computational linguist I know addressed me to it. He believes that it is the best language to develop computational linguistics applications, among the others.
