Elena Koumpouzi

Hi, I'm a visual artist by training and currently a PhD candidate in cultural heritage. I've led conceptual art and heritage projects internationally and I'm about to open my own gallery space.
Through my practice I've been investigating notions of public and private spaces in urban living.
In weaving I'm looking to understand ways of interaction of the body with the materials involved. I'm intending to use the new skills and knowledge in my practice.
My influences have been other artists such as Joseph Boyce, Lucio Fontana, Rachel Whiteread and Richard Wilson. I've also admired the brutalist architecture movement.
Previous projects have been basket weaving, woodwork for sculptural pieces and coracle building.
