About the video: Influences
Overview
“Let's talk about my style and how it was born. During my process I studied references that have influenced each of the stages of learning, for this I have two phrases, the first “A copy artist, a great artist steals”, hence all my creativity, observing and imitating and even stealing , the second "overthrow idols", this helped me to take from each one what I admired most until fine-tuning his technique and translate it into my visual language. I will start with Pablo Lobato from whom I learned geometry, thanks to him I had my first approach to flat shapes and how to interpret them through vector and color, I also learned how through a few strokes you can synthesize the essence of a character; Once I applied his technique to my illustration, I decided to look for some volume in what Juan Carlos Paz (better known as Bakea), was my step forward, because his illustrations try to reach the reality of photography in fantastic scenarios full of creatures and friendly monsters perfectly integrated into their surroundings through color, textures and their post production work. Something that has always caused me fear is the color, because I have no theoretical basis that would allow me to know if I was making wise decisions that would work well, for this Lorena Álvarez and her illustrations have been my best teachers; In a talk I heard her talk about how she achieved her color palettes organically and through the development of taste. From the Colombian artist Jorge Lewis Morales I find it interesting how he achieves geometries at the analogous level and the way in which each of his illustrations evoke and transmit the history and tradition of our country, the way he geometrizes animals and how he gives them spirituality transmitting a mystical air that makes me feel that I must also transmit. T-Wei and some other illustrators that I admire either technique, color, abstraction, conceptualization etc. Every day you find new references and the ideal is that you oust them to find your own style. ”
In this video lesson Edgar Rozo addresses the topic: Influences, which is part of the Domestika online course: Geometric Illustration with Volume. Learn to design digital characters with larger-than-life personalities using "wild" geometry.

“INFLUENCES You know how I started in the illustration. I will show you the illustrators who have influenced my work, how they have affected my graph and others. Come on. I would like to quote a phrase from the great Pablo Picasso: "A great copy artist, geniuses steal." I find it interesting how he steals the elements of all referents and all the artists you have at the top. Here I start with my first reference, Pablo Lobato, A passionate about cartoon and all Pop culture. From him I stole the geometry, the planes ... I really like the composition you use in your illustrations. With simple g...”
