Expressive Line Work in Illustration
“Preparing and teaching this Domestika course has been a great experience for me that has served to reflect on my work, my style and the tools I use. I hope I have passed on my passion for drawing and that my work and this course will support you to explore the possibilities of the line in graphic creation and that will help you develop your own style or discover new paths. In this course I have shown you how to create an illustration using the line as the main graphic element, from pencil sketches to vector drawing on the computer. We have played with geometry to synthesize the details of the illustration and make it cleaner and more harmonious. We have also explored the possibilities of curved lines to try to give movement to our designs. Then I have shown you my work process on the computer until I reached the final art. As you have seen, analog and digital tools are not at odds with each other and we can alternate or combine them at our whim. Each one uses the tools and programs that best suit their way of working, so choose yours and above all try to make them enjoy the process. In my case, the stroke of the pencil on the paper is what makes me happiest. For my project I chose one of my favorite themes, the sea. Remember that you can choose any other theme that inspires you to play with the lines. The line can be contour, movement, create textures ... its possibilities are limitless! It is also very important that you try to work from your own style. Style is like the voice, we all have our own that identifies us. Finding yours can take time, so be patient. As I showed you in the resources of the first unit, there are many illustrators who work with the line as the main element in their work, but each one does it in a different way, from their own style. Now one of the most enriching parts of my work as a teacher begins. I am looking forward to seeing your ideas, sketches and illustrations! I encourage you to share your work on the forum as well as any content of interest related to the course. I will be happy to give you feedback and try to solve your doubts. I will try to answer you as soon as I can and I will appreciate your patience if I ever take a while due to my work. I hope that together we create a community in which to share our passion for drawing and sinuous lines. Much encouragement, see you on the forum! Charles ”

“FINAL PROJECT In this lesson we will review what we did in the course. I first introduced myself so that you would get to know me better. I told you about my influences and my references and what influenced me to create my style. Then I told you about the importance of the subject. We worked on the documentation and began to make the first strokes. We did some exercises to release the hand and get fluent. And then, in the composition, in the details of the illustration. We work on the figures separately, first for the simplest. the geometric ones, where we work with synthesis, and then the ...”
