Experimentation is the only way to creative growth. Everything goes and there are no rules. This is how Tomás Ives, a Chilean artist with more than fifteen years of experience, specializes in the digital illustration of surrealist landscapes and mythological beings in his works.
In this course you will learn a work process to unfold all your creative potential on a vector illustration. In this case you will work from a song. From the search for references to the use of “graphic muletillas”, you will immerse yourself in the methodology that Tomás uses in the creation of fantastic scenes.
About this course
You will begin by knowing the work of Tomás Ives, his influences, history and arguments to start the work of creating an original illustration.
Choosing a song that inspires you, you will work in the process of collecting images, concepts and ideas to, together with it, develop an illustration with a surrealist seal.
You will go through the steps to go from a simple list of ideas, to an illustrated final piece. You will know didactic processes that will help you to detach the merely rational or logical from your final work to achieve a shocking result.
Tomás will teach you the use of “graphic muletillas” as symbolic graphic resources, textures and ornaments to populate the space of your work and create a story around your composition.
You will learn tools to seal your final illustration, or print in silkscreen, to end up getting a dazzling final finish.
Finally you will have experimented with various techniques and methods to unleash your creative potential and put it into function of illustrations with more impact and greater imagination.

Following in the footsteps of Thomas, you will develop a vector illustration with a surreal stamp based on a concept. In your case, you will use a song as inspiration.

What you need
You will need to be a music lover and have a pencil, paper, a computer ideally with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop installed and a graphics tablet. It is important to have basic notions of drawing and the use of the mentioned programs.

Tomás Ives is a self-taught artist born in Chile who is currently dedicated to muralism, illustration and design of campaigns and posters for Chilean independent cinema. Throughout his career he has specialized in design thinking processes that he applies in all his creations.
He has worked as an animator, cartoonist of graphic humor, motion graphics , art director for a television channel and even as head of the design and communications team of the Government of Chile.
During his fifteen years of experience he has been developing a style and a particular stamp that makes him recognizable in his role as illustrator, which today, fortunately, is dedicated.
