About the final project for: Calligraphy and Rock n Roll

Calligraphy and Rock'n'Roll

“Let's recap the topics that we have touched during the course:

  • Italic shape with brush, from how to hold the brush to complete the alphabet.
  • Shape variations with the same tool, starting with a semi-formal writing and reaching a more abstract letter.
  • Experimentation with different materials and techniques.
  • Already facing the project, we have investigated on the chosen band.
  • Speculation about the possible solutions that we could apply in our logo, and selection of the definitive one.
  • Repetition of the form until achieving the definitive logo.
  • Cleaning and digitalization of the logo.
I leave here my Final Project . Well this has been all, I hope you enjoyed doing the course as much as I did preparing it. If you had never done calligraphy, I hope this was a good way to start and you already want to try other scriptures and work with other tools such as flat brush or metal pen. If, on the contrary, you have already faced the handwriting, I hope that the brush has seemed an interesting alternative. Anyway, do not forget that calligraphy is a discipline that requires daily practice. It is much more effective to have a brush and some papers always at hand and to practice ten minutes every day to forget about the subject and one day to binge. Another thing that you have to be aware of in order to progress is that you have to be very self-critical about what you do. Before giving anything to finish, look at it for errors and reflect on whether you can do better. You also have to apply this criticism to the work of others, always in a constructive way. As Matthew Carter said, "typography is a nice set of letters, not a set of pretty letters" (this also applies to calligraphy, of course). Taking this appointment to our field, you have to know that, especially when putting a logo, it is not about making a lot of very complex letters, but that the calligraphic rhythm (spacing, shapes, weight of the strokes, contrast ) be consistent. So nothing, do not forget to share your achievements with the community and we keep talking in the forum of the course!”

“[Music] Well, this has been everything. As you can see, we started in a very simple way, holding some brushes, seeing how the thick lines and the fine lines constructing the first alphabet shapes, completing this alphabet and then through various techniques and materials, experimenting a bit more where we could take these forms. As we have seen, the technique of the brush is very versatile. We can get very different results, simply with the same tool and with the same technique. Which is very interesting for the final project. If you have already finished your final project, upload it to th...”
