About the final project for: Guided Course: Designing a Conceptual Lamp Step by Step

Guided Course: Design a conceptual lamp step by step

“Start with curiosity and a notebook: try out three quick ideas, choose the one that intrigues you the most and turn it into a small family of lamps that speaks your own visual language—then share it with the community. 1. Living paper: modular lamp with folds Explore the sculptural qualities of paper (tracing paper, cardstock, or washi tape) through repeated folds. Define three folding concepts, select one, and develop it in two variations (tabletop and hanging). Refine joining details (clips, magnets, tabs) and experiment with different LED light temperatures. Example project: “Nest” Collection: a table lamp with a folded hexagonal module and its hanging version with the same pattern, both with USB LED. 2. Soft geometry: a line that draws light Start with wires or wooden rods to trace continuous curves that contain the light fixture. Create three three-dimensional sketches (oval, teardrop, spiral), choose the most convincing one, and generate a family of versions with variations in scale. Finish with details such as a base, switch, and satin finish. Example project: “Trazo” series: elliptical curved floor lamp and wall sconce with the same reduced geometry. 3. Chromatic orbit: light filtered by color Investigate how translucent filters (acetate, thin acrylic, dyed fabrics) tint light. Propose three color combinations, select a palette, and construct two pieces that share the same "frame orbit." Adjust the distance between the light source and the filter to control the intensity. Example project: “Aura” family: table lamp with amber disc and pendant lamp with double amber-pink disc for warm transitions. 4. Domestic biomimicry: organic forms, clear logic Observe seeds, shells, or leaves and synthesize three morphologies. Choose one and transfer it to two sister lamps, paying attention to proportions, gaps, and projected shadows. Define honest materials (fine wood, linen, rope) and discreet joins. Example project: “Vaina” set: linen screen stretched over wooden hoops (suspension) and mini-vase for table as ambient light. 5. Fold-unfold: portable lamp and its fixed companion Design a light fixture that can be assembled without tools (using a snap-fit or cardboard/acrylic zipper system) and develop a fixed version using the same design principles. Consider flat storage, secure wiring, and durable finishes. Example project: “Origami Go” Duo: foldable USB desk lamp and fixed pendant with the same faceted pattern. Seek coherence rather than complexity: a clear gesture, honest materials, and careful details turn an idea into a family; listen to what the light asks of you, prototype without fear, and let your collection speak for you.”
