About the final project for: Specialization in calligraphy: art from fundamentals to ornamentation
Especialización en Caligrafía: Arte desde Fundamentos hasta Ornamentación
“Final Project: Master Portfolio: From Classical Technique to Ornamental Innovation Objective Create a comprehensive professional portfolio that reflects your technical mastery of the major Western calligraphy styles and your ability to apply calligraphy to publishing, graphic design, and visual identity projects. A unique opportunity to combine technique, your own style, and commercial vision into pieces of character and high creative value. Project description Throughout this specialization, you have explored the world of calligraphy alongside Bego Viñuela, Joaquín Seguí, Belén La Rivera, Leo Calderón, and Panda. You have learned their influences, perfected your strokes, and explored classic styles such as Copperplate, uncial, italic, and foundational, until you have developed the ornamental expressiveness of flourishes. Now it's time to bring all that learning together into a final project that not only showcases your technical skill but also expresses your voice as a calligrapher. This portfolio will be your calling card: a reflection of your journey, your interests, and your creative potential in different contexts. Project components 1. Idea and concept • A coherent and expressive portfolio that brings together your learnings in different styles, adapted to real creative and commercial contexts. 2. Applied techniques • Practice of copperplate, uncial, italic, and foundational script, combined with advanced calligraphic flourishes and knowledge of composition, color, rhythm, and space. 3. Personal style • Integration of your artistic vision and unique calligraphic style into each submission, with the freedom to explore the conceptual, decorative, or functional. 4. Presentation Clear and well-crafted digital delivery, with finished pieces, brief explanatory texts, good visual quality, and overall coherence. Steps for development 1. Gather your notes, exercises, and slides for each style to identify your strengths. 2. Define the concept of your portfolio: what do you want to convey with your work? 3. Plan your pieces: sketch ideas, choose color palettes, decide on formats. 4. Develop each project applying the techniques learned, taking care of rhythm and composition. 5. Review, correct, and refine each delivery until you achieve a professional finish. 6. Document your entire process: include images, evidence, and brief personal reflections. 7. Put together your final presentation, ensuring visual and narrative coherence. Final delivery • Technical Fundamentals: Series of plates with the Copperplate alphabet and color precision exercises. • Editorial Application: Digital postcard in uncial style, with complete digitalization and adaptation to the medium. • Graphic Design: Promotional poster in italics with professional composition and visual applicability. • Business Identity: Logo and basic stationery in a foundational style, ready for commercial use. • Ornamental Masterpiece: Free composition that combines learned styles with complex flourishes, showing your level of mastery. This portfolio is not only a showcase of what you know how to do, but a celebration of what you are capable of creating. Every stroke tells your story, every style reflects a part of your artistic sensibility. You have learned from great influences, and now it's your turn to shine with work that speaks with your voice and your hand. Trust your process and continue writing with intention and beauty!”
