Specialization in Mixed Media Illustration Techniques

Final Project: Mixed Media Illustrated Book: Personal Visual Narrative Objective You will create a short picture book that combines your artistic vision with mastery of mixed media techniques. This project will be an opportunity to translate ideas and emotions into images, articulating text and illustration in a coherent and expressive way. Project description Throughout this specialization, you explored collage, graphite, digital manipulation, and other forms of experimental illustration. Now, all that learning comes together in a project where you will develop your own visual narrative. Guided by artists such as Leonor Pérez, Aldo Jarillo, Alejandra Acosta, Samuel Castaño, and Patricia Escalante, you will work from research to final composition to create a unique illustrated book with its own identity, visual rhythm, and emotional resonance. Project Components 1. Idea and concept • Choose a theme that is close to you, poetic or personal, that allows you to develop a coherent visual narrative with its own voice. 2. Applied techniques • Freely mix materials and visual languages: graphite, collage, painting, digital intervention, cutouts or hand drawing. 3. Personal style • Reflect your vision and sensitivity through graphic decisions, the rhythm of the pages, the silences, and the textures. 4. Presentation • Organize your project in a clear and visually appealing way: text and image should flow smoothly in the final mockup. Steps for development 1. Research your topic and create a mood board with visual and emotional references. 2. Experiment with materials in a series of loose, unfiltered sketches. 3. Define a narrative structure with a storyboard that guides the pace of the book. 4. Create between 5 and 7 final illustrations using mixed techniques, exploring your style. 5. Design a digital mockup of the book where text and image are harmoniously integrated. 6. Review, edit, and adjust your project until you achieve a solid, expressive, and coherent piece. Final delivery • 1 conceptual mood board with visual and technical references • Experimental sketches of graphic exploration • Storyboard with narrative planning • 5 to 7 final illustrations created using mixed media techniques • Digital mockup of the illustrated book with integrated text and images You've created more than just an illustrated book: you've shaped a visual narrative that reflects your vision, your intuitions, and your unique way of combining techniques. This project is the result of fearless exploration, of experimenting with materials, ideas, and your own paths. It's not just about mastering tools, but about finding a visual voice capable of moving and connecting. Don't forget to share your project in the forum so we can see what you've created in detail. It's also a great place for us to exchange tips and feedback. Keep trusting your process, the happy accidents, and the mix as a creative force. What begins here can continue to grow, transform, and open new doors. Your universe is already in motion.”
