About the final project for: Manga Character Illustration Specialization

Specialization in manga character illustration

Final Project: From Sketch to World: Comprehensive Manga Creation Objective Demonstrate everything you've learned throughout this specialization by creating a complete manga work, rich in narrative, visual expression, and technique. From character design to final illustration, you'll create a unique universe with its own identity, capable of connecting with those who read and view it. A closing experience designed to showcase your vision, your voice, and your style. Description During your journey with Andrea Jen, Catalina Carlesi, Caroca, and Akimaro, you learned to build characters with soul, use color as an emotional language, narrate with images, and transform personal experiences into moving sequences. Now it's time to combine all that knowledge into a complete and professional manga proposal. You'll design a visual and narrative universe, develop memorable characters, and create scenes that combine the best of traditional and digital work. This will be a reflection of your evolution: a work that not only shows what you know how to do, but what you want to tell. Project components 1. Bible of characters and world • Complete files for 3 to 4 main characters • Model sheets with expressions, poses, costumes and accessories • Visual design of the universe: environment, atmospheres and key references • Both watercolor and digital versions to show versatility 2. Structured visual narrative • Clear story synopsis and chapter structure • Complete storyboard of an episode between 12 and 16 pages • 4 to 6 pages finished with inking, plots, and professional manga style 3. Illustration portfolio • Watercolor illustrated portrait of a main character • Two digital illustrations: one individual scene and one group scene • Alternative cover illustration with contemporary urban style 4. Promotional material • Full-color main cover for your story • 1 or 2 promotional illustrations ready to be used on products or advertising Steps for development 1. Concept and documentation • Defines the narrative universe, the characters and their relationships • Research visual and stylistic references to enrich your proposal 2. Visual design and development • Draw model sheets and work in both traditional and digital techniques • Design key settings, objects, and elements of the world 3. Narrative and structure • Write the synopsis and organize the chapter sequence • Create the complete storyboard before moving on to the final art 4. Illustrations and finishes • Create your key illustrations with special attention to style and atmosphere • Prepare the cover and promotional material with visual coherence 5. Portfolio Preparation • Order deliverables carefully, including titles and descriptions • Think about how you want to present your work to the world 6. Final delivery • Visual Bible with characters, universe and mixed media versions • Full storyboard and 4-6 finished pages of your manga • 4 main illustrations (watercolor, digital, alternative cover) • Color cover + promotional material • All in a visually coherent and professional portfolio You've brought characters that didn't exist before you, imagined worlds from scratch, and transformed emotions into images. What you see before you today isn't just the result of a technical process: it's the reflection of your inner universe transformed into manga. Every page, every color, every drawn look bears your stamp and your voice. This journey doesn't end here. Now you know how to tell stories with visual power, how to transform ideas into narrative, and how to create works that connect with others through authenticity. You carry with you a powerful tool: your ability to imagine and make real what only you can see. What comes next is to continue creating without fear, with greater strength, with greater clarity, and with the certainty that your world has a place in that of others.”
