About the final project for: Specialization in Contemporary Jewelry Techniques

Especialización en Técnicas Alternativas de Joyería

Final Project: Multi-technique Experimental Jewelry Collection Objective The objective of this final project is to design and create a collection of three to five pieces of jewelry that creatively and technically combine at least two different materials or techniques learned throughout the specialization course. This work should reflect your personal style, your identity as a creator, and a solid proposal that can be applied in artistic, commercial, or editorial contexts. Project Description During this final project, you will focus on developing an original collection of experimental jewelry, exploring unusual combinations of materials, mixed media, and artisanal or technological processes. At least one of your pieces should incorporate some type of technology or experimental technique, such as embroidery, 3D printing, ceramics, or fibers, in order to expand the boundaries of traditional jewelry language. The result should be a coherent, well-thought-out, and visually powerful proposal that speaks to your creative interests, technical mastery, and narrative ability through the object. Project Components 1. Research and Conceptualization • Define an overall concept that connects all the pieces in your collection. • Research materials, techniques, and visual or theoretical references that support your idea. • Make preliminary sketches and explore possible combinations of techniques and materials. 2. Exploration of Techniques and Materials • Experiment with mixed media: combine two or more processes (e.g., metal and embroidery, ceramics and textiles, 3D printing and resin). • Document the results, select the most successful combinations and refine them. 3. Final Design of the Collection • Choose the 3 to 5 pieces that will make up your collection. • Define its measurements, shapes, materials, color palette and technical elements. • Make sure at least one piece includes an experimental or technological technique. 4. Production of the Parts • Execute each piece with technical precision and fidelity to the original concept. • Consider the finish, durability, comfort when using them, and aesthetic coherence between them. 5. Presentation and Reflection • Photograph each finished piece in good light, with a neutral background and, in some cases, in the context of use (optional). • Write a brief description of your collection, explaining the concept, materials used, and design decisions. • Share the creative process: include sketches, tests, references, and key decisions. • Reflect on the challenges you faced and what you discovered about yourself as a designer during the specialization. Steps for Development 1. Inspiration and Concept • Define a common thread for your collection. • Gather images, keywords, textures, or themes that interest you. 2. Sketches and Tests • Make several sketches for each piece. • Experiment with combinations of materials and techniques. 3. Production • Create your pieces taking care of both the structure and the aesthetic details. • Make sure the finishes are well resolved. 4. Documentation • Take photos of the process and the final result. • Write a short presentation to accompany your collection. Final Delivery • 3 to 5 finished pieces of jewelry, combining at least two different techniques or materials. • High-quality photographs of each piece (with or without a model, as you decide). • A brief conceptual description of the collection (max. one page). • Process documentation: sketches, tests, visual references or materials. • At least one experimental piece that incorporates unconventional technology or techniques (such as embroidery, ceramics, 3D printing, or textiles). Each piece you design is an extension of your way of seeing and transforming the world. This collection isn't just a closing ceremony; it's the beginning of your creative voice in the field of contemporary jewelry.”
