Costume and Wardrobe Design for Showbiz
“At Domestika, we've created a selection of ideas to help you culminate your learning experience. We understand that starting a project from scratch can be intimidating, even for the most experienced. These proposals have been conceived as creative springboards that you can personalize according to: - Your own style and vision - The level you have reached - Your particular interests Remember that these are just suggestions to stimulate your imagination. The essential thing is to apply what you've learned and enjoy creating something that represents you. We're eagerly waiting to see your interpretation! Design a stage costume that tells a story Create a striking look for a real or fictional character who is about to step on stage. The goal is not just to design eye-catching clothing, but to convey a visual narrative through garments, colors, textures, and accessories. This project invites you to think about the artist’s personality, emotions, and context, and reflect them creatively in their outfit. You don’t need to sew from scratch: you can mix existing garments, customize found pieces, or draw your proposal digitally. Play with styling, create mood boards, and experiment with bold combinations. Project example: Design the costume for a futuristic pop singer, combining tech-inspired elements with vintage references. Include sketches, a color palette, and a visual presentation of the final look. Transform a basic garment into a stage-ready piece This challenge consists of taking a simple garment (like a t-shirt, jacket, or dress) and customizing it into a piece worthy of the stage. Use techniques such as embroidery, textile paint, appliqués, or accessory interventions. The idea is to experiment and unleash your creativity by embellishing something that already exists. This project is perfect for those who want to explore costume design without starting from scratch, and it can be adapted to any stage style — from theater and dance to concerts or performance art. Project example: Start with a basic denim jacket and turn it into a bold piece for a female urban music artist, incorporating chains, patches, and shiny details.
