I like this method because it allows me to easily clean up and change the drawing afterward. Take your Conté. I'll double-check if my reference image fits on my sketchbook page with enough room. It does. You will flip it over. I'll cover the back of my image with Conté. I can see through the paper. It's a bit thin, so I know I don't have to cover it everywhere.
