Afua Njoki Richardson is an American comic book illustrator and writer and an Eisner Award–winning artist, best known for her work on Marvel’s Black Panther: World of Wakanda. With over 20 years of experience in the comic book industry, her work powerfully weaves together her African American and Indigenous heritage through illustration, fashion, and visual storytelling.
Her career spans both page and screen, with contributions to projects such as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and HBO’s Emmy-winning series Lovecraft Country. Beyond illustration, Afua is also a writer, voice actor, musician, vocalist, game design consultant, and public speaker, with a strong focus on educational, scientific, and academic communities worldwide.
She is currently developing her creator-owned series Aquarius: The Book of Mer. Drawing from a family background rooted in science and military service, alongside her artistic career and passion for cultural studies, Afua brings a distinctive perspective to education, communication, and innovation in the arts. Born in New York City, she currently lives in Illinois.
