Learn to bind a paper publication
In this Textures Factory course you will learn how to design and bind your own books, catalogs, fanzines, travel notebooks or your paper portfolio in a completely manual way.
You will know the different techniques that encompass the binding process, from the folding of paper through the Japanese stitching, the realization of hard and soft covers, the creation of foldouts, etc. and you will get the most out of working with different materials such as wood, cardboard or fabric.
Discover how to edit your graphic content adapted to each type of binding.
What's included in this course?
You will start with a brief introduction to the concept of "Low Tech design", or what is the same, the use of techniques in which you do not need machinery or complex processes to perform them. Then you will delve into the anatomy of the book and the tools and materials you will need.
Once you have your basic bookbinder kit you will discover how to create step by step different types of folded notebooks - accordion, butterfly, geometric and its variants - and the techniques of Japanese and Coptic stitching.
Next, you will enter the incredible world of Desktop Publishing. You will learn how to design a book by choosing the materials, the type of cover, formats ... Once you have the base, you will have to digitally design your project with Adobe InDesign.
The last phase will be the printing and binding and you will have your paper portfolio ready to be distributed!
What is this course project about?
You must self-publish a publication. As a base during the course, you will see the process of designing a catalog for a greengrocer, but you can select your own graphic production and those projects that you feel most proud of to make your portfolio, for example.
Who is it for?
Anyone wanting to learn about editorial design and create their portfolio or any other graphic material (catalogs, photography notebooks, fanzines, books, travel notebooks) in a creative and original way.
You will have to make basic homemade materials to make the binding such as paper, brushes, cloth ... and everything you want to incorporate. Do not worry about anything because Fábrica de Texturas will tell you where to buy everything you need.
In addition, you must have installed Adobe InDesign computer or any program of layout and, of course, a lot of desire to learn and enjoy.
