About the final project for: Hand-Painted Signboards

Hand painted signs

“During the lessons we taught you all the secrets to create an Italian style painted sign, now it's your turn! Follow these basic steps to complete your project. Don't just copy our example, but experiment and invent something new. This way, you will learn to independently apply the techniques we have taught you and give more space to creativity. Word construction Before starting with the glass, take good measurements and build the word on paper with the help of our modular alphabet that you found in the Additional Resources. As you know, we made some small optical adjustments during the course. Until you get familiar with the technique, however, feel free to follow the guides we have given you.

Defining the final design Take your time to create the final design before transferring it to glass. Draw the 3D carefully and remember that a 45° angle could make the writing look artificial. Trust your eye. Then move on to choosing the colors: here you can unleash your imagination and give your sign a touch of style.
Painting the fillet Now it's time to apply the dust on glass and start with the outline. As we told you in the lessons, on glass you don't have to be afraid of making mistakes, you can always fix them. Go slightly over the outer lines, it will help you have the right brush stroke for your letters. You can remove the excess with the razor blade.
3D painting, background and gilding At this point you can paint the 3D and the background, but it is important to always respect the drying times between one step and the other. Even for gilding, respecting the times is essential, and do not forget that here too you can correct any errors with great ease, you just need to be patient.
Finishing To finish the project, apply a final coat of primer over the gilding to protect your sign. Resist the temptation to look at the result right away and let it dry for at least 12 hours.
Now share your project in the forum! Show everyone both the final result and the work steps, documenting each step with an image and describing what you did with a short explanation. As soon as possible, we will be happy to comment on your work. Check out your colleagues’ projects and encourage them by commenting on what they’ve shared: don’t miss out on a valuable opportunity to engage with the creative community. Thanks again for taking this journey with us! ”

“Here we are at the end of our course. I hope you enjoyed following us on this journey discovering our hand painted signs. Now is the time to challenge yourself and start creating your final project. The first thing you have to do is choose what you want to write. If you're just starting out, we recommend starting with a single letter or a short word. You can make the same sign that we did, or choose one you prefer. Don't complicate your life, though. This project serves to take the first steps in this world. So choose something simple, a job that allows you to practice without fear of makin...”
