About the final project for: Fantasy Character Illustration with Japanese Influence

Fantasy Character Illustration with Japanese Influence

“Congratulations on finishing this course. I hope you have found it interesting and that you have learned a lot. You've learned to make an illustration of a Japanese fantasy creature-themed character. Now it's your turn to create your own illustration. Let me show you an example of how I would like to see your course project process: First Steps Look for the animal, the background, the props… I have talked to a friend to find new hints from our own memories to give a background story to the character and the situation I have decided to illustrate. I got inspired by my own story! This gave uniqueness to my work. No one lived that experience but me. Character Design Design the character by starting from the head first. Then design the body and add clothes and props to it. This is the funniest part!!

Layout and Composition At this point, create the composition for your work. Start by drawing very small sketches on white paper, and find a good composition for your work. Once you choose the best one, print it in a larger size and start drawing over it with a light table.
Character and Background Finally, the composition is ready; draw the characters on another piece of paper, from a sketch to a cleaner version. Once the character is ready, start drawing the background on a new paper. Here as well, from a sketch to a final clean version. Then scan all papers and import them into your favorite software to start coloring them.
Last Details Experiment with different color palettes; choose your favorite one. Once the palette it's ready, make the final coloring, fill all spaces with colors and add a texture to it. Lastly, add shadows and lights by using graduations and blending moves.
Once your project is ready, share it on the forum by clicking the "Create your project" button. I will look at your publications as soon as possible and answer any doubts that need clarification. In the meantime, I encourage you to see what your fellow students have been up to and comment on their posts. See you soon!”
