Creating unique patterns that bear your stamp of identity can be a challenge nowadays, but by exploring your creativity and breaking the rules of pattern design, you can do just that. In this online course, learn how to create a print with the half drop pattern repeat technique to create more complex patterns where the repetition is less noticeable.
Mónica Muñoz, better known as Moniquilla, is an experienced textile designer who has created patterns and prints for brands such as Zara, Introphia, Urban Outfitters, Sainsbury's, and Häagen-Dazs. Pick up her secrets as she teaches you how to make a pattern repeat look more seamless and less grid-like.

What's included in this course?

Monica explains what the half drop pattern repeat technique is as well as the different types of repeat patterns out there. She shows you the materials you need to refine your prints and the Adobe Photoshop tools to use.
Explore different sources of inspiration as well as designers before creating a mood board that will help you analyze colors, establish a color palette, and guide your design.
Create a pencil sketch of your pattern to have a rough idea of the design. Start to define the composition and add some color.
Digitize your piece and start working with each element in Photoshop, editing the design until you achieve the color and effect you want. Monica then leads you through the steps to create a half drop pattern repeat.
Check that everything is just as you want it before creating the repetition by following the instructions for saving and exporting the project. To wrap up, Monica shows you how to create a professional mock-up and gives you some final tips on how to showcase your print design online.

Requirements and materials
To take this course, all you need is some basic Adobe Photoshop knowledge. Monica will use watercolor as a painting technique, but you can use whichever technique or drawing process you prefer, whether that be with markers, pencils, ballpoint pens, etc.
Regarding materials, you need a computer with Adobe Photoshop installed and some drawing tools of your choice to turn your project into a reality.
