About the final project for: Modeling Torsos with Clay

Modeling Torsos with Clay

“Thank you very much for accompanying me during the course. I'm looking forward to seeing how your technique has evolved and how your piece has gradually come to life. Now we are going to review the key phases of the project so that you can share it with the Domestika community. I would like you to briefly explain what you have done in each one and accompany the explanation with one or more images. The sketch and the structure The first step is to make a drawing of the project that you are going to undertake. Then comes the time to carefully build the structure or frame of the piece. We must ensure that it is stable and secure, and we must work to ensure that our exercise will not deteriorate during the process.

Essential bone volumes and structures Add the first volumes of clay with energy so that it adheres well to the frame and does not cause slack or cracks in the modeling. Remember, start with the basic structure of the ribcage, pelvis and spine, they will be the essence of the dynamics of the piece. Once the essential volumes are located, you must analyze the situation of the main subcutaneous references, clavicles, trochanters, pelvis, thoracic arch, iliac spines, scapulae, etc. Analyze its location and orientation well so that the muscle volumes have a logical and coherent meaning. Then add all the large muscle volumes, thinking about what activity the area has to make sense of the dynamic ensemble of the piece. You must add the pectorals, the obliques, the lats, the deltoids, the abdominals, etc. Model looking a bit for the direction of the fibers, you will be able to give more sensation of volume.
Skin and details Finally we must add the skin and the final details. We will melt all the muscle layers and bone references with a thin layer of clay that gives our torso the final appearance. At this moment we must think about what finish we want to give to the figure, more expressive (with gobs of clay) or more closed and objective, using chopsticks for the final finish.
The time has come for you to share your final project with the community by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result of your sculpture and the steps that have led you to it. I look forward to seeing your project and giving you feedback. Although I ask for your patience, I will try to access the forum as much as I can and what my professional projects allow me. Finally, I want to invite you to actively participate in the forum, not only sharing your progress, but also giving advice and trying to help the rest of the community. See you in the forum!”

“Final project I'm glad you did this course to whom I have dedicated a lot of love and dedication. I hope I have provided you with many strategies and ideas so that your modeling evolves and improves on a day-to-day basis. Sculpture is something that doesn't come out suddenly we need to go on working, evolving, doing, so that the final concept that we want have a content, a final expressive story. Don't be in a hurry. Stand in each lesson, in each moment, in each detail, in each strategy that is described during the course. The important thing is that each concept and each strategy is well l...”
