Learn to create customized portraits with Adobe Photoshop

The secret to having a versatile style of illustration is not to get stuck in a single technique. Ricard López, better known as Ricardilus, has made that statement the basis of his work, and has found in the portrait the perfect canvas to merge and try different styles and techniques; This has greatly enriched his professional life and allows him to receive all kinds of orders.

In this course you will learn to experiment with illustration. Ricardilus will teach you to create portraits from a photograph, to complete it with analog techniques and to give color with digital watercolors in Adobe Photoshop and a pen tablet.

About this course

First you will learn more about Ricardiulus' work, who will also talk about the topics that inspire him, the techniques he usually uses and the artists he admires.

Afterwards, it will teach you the basic tools that you will need to carry out the project of the course. You will see in depth the possibilities of Photoshop brushes and you will learn to take full advantage of the different settings.

Ricardilus will tell you, step by step, how to create a digital brush that simulates graphite to create the base of the portrait, and will teach you how to create custom digital watercolor brushes based on watercolor stains, ink or water-soluble graphite.

You will create your moodboard , which will inspire you and help you create the final composition of your project. From these reference photographs you will make the sketch with the graphite brush.

You will learn to apply color and you will use watercolor digital brushes to add depth and dynamism to your illustrations.

Finally, Ricardilus will guide you when applying textures, filters and effects. And you will see how to export your work correctly so that it looks perfect on all types of media.

Painter and illustrator

The passion of Ricard López -more known as Ricardilus- for drawing was born when he was three years old, always surrounded by pencils, colors and notebooks, although the decision to dedicate himself to his vocation did not arise until he began his artistic studies at the age of 16.

He began the university career of Fine Arts, where he lasted one year. He began, later, a Higher Degree of Animation and 3D in the EASD Pau Gargallo, since he had always been attracted by the idea of giving life to his drawings. During that time he alternated classes with different illustration courses and finished the degree with an animated short film (La Folie) with which he has been selected and awarded in different renowned competitions. The following year he enrolled in Graphic Arts at the Joso School in Barcelona and graduated in 2017. Currently he is dedicated solely to illustration, alternating all kinds of projects with different courses related to art.

His illustrations are based on the female figure, but he is a faithful believer that a good illustrator should never be stuck in a single style, so he tries to discover new worlds and techniques every day. This has opened the doors to work with clients such as Penguin Random House or Editorial Planeta, TSL Jewelery (Hong Kong), Jewelery Suarez or SofarSounds or the National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC), among others.
