I'll show how the same skin tone completely changes based on the environment the character is in, and so it's a very important step to make the illustration make sense and feel that the character belongs in that environment. This is a very important rule to make the character more real. And as always, before putting any color into my portraits, I always do this little study to see how the light in the scene will look.
