“ The Final Colored Illustration We've added the precise linework. In this lesson, we'll add the final color. We've got all our line art in place, I like the way everything is looking, it's time to add the final color. Now, I'll typically turn this layer that I have at a low opacity up to 100% Opacity, and I'll move it below the white layer that I was using to block it out. I'll turn it off, I'll sample a color like this gray here, and then it's really simple, I just start sampling a color and then filling it in. R Kikuo Johnson is a cartoonist and illustrator from Hawaii. He fell in love with drawing at a young age as a way to tell stories and went on to study illustration at art school where he started his first graphic novel, Night Fisher. After graduating, he published a second novel and landed his first major illustration job—a two-page illustration in The New Yorker.
Since then, Kikuo has collaborated with clients including Airbnb, The Atlantic, Coca-Cola, The Guggenheim Foundation, Marvel Comics, The New York Times, Newsweek, Nike, Puma, and Penguin Random House. His illustrations have earned two gold medals from the Society Of Illustrators, and his most recent graphic novella, No One Else, won the 2021 Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
