Discover the process to create a graphic novel from the birth of the idea to its publication
The creation of a graphic novel requires taking into account creative aspects, but also organizational ones. María Luque is a cartoonist, illustrator and artist. He has published The Hand of the Painter , Transparent House and News of painters , for which he has received several international awards. In this course you will learn how to embark on a project to create a graphic novel from the birth of the idea to its publication.
From Maria's hand you will develop your own graphic novel, choosing and controlling each of the processes: you will write the script, you will select the materials you want to work with, you will define the characters and their stories and you will see how to publish it.
What's included in this course?
To start you will know better the work of María Luque, who will tell you about her artistic influences and her graphic novels of reference.
Then you will start to pose ideas for your graphic novel and Maria will explain how to develop a work plan with realistic goals.
Later you will get down to work; you will write the synopsis of your publication, you will choose the materials to work on, you will define the characters and you will pose the rhythm of the story to be able to tell it in vignettes.
As sometimes the creation of a graphic novel can be a long process, María will share some tips and secrets so that the process of creating your graphic novel is fun and you maintain the enthusiasm for the project from the beginning to the end.
Once you have your finished vignettes you will know the process to share it: from finding a first reader or an editor to what to do once your project is finished (submit it to contests, to publishers or self-publish it).
What is this course project about?
You will create a graphic novel from beginning to end. You will write the synopsis, you will outline the work calendar, you will test materials, you will define the characters, you will create the plans and vignettes and you will make the decisions for their edition and publication.
Who is it aimed at?
To illustrators, cartoonists, graphic artists and anyone interested in creating and publishing a graphic novel of their own that does not know where to start.
No previous knowledge is necessary, since Maria will explain the whole process of creating a graphic novel, although it is advisable to have notions of drawing to be able to capture your ideas in images.
With respect to the materials you will need paper and the drawing tools that you choose for the graphic part of your graphic novel (gouache, colored pencils, markers ...).

María Luque was born in Rosario (Argentina) and since 2005 exhibits her works in museums and galleries in her native country and also in Chile, Peru, Mexico and Spain. To her work as an artist we must add her projects in the field of editorial illustration and the coordination of workshops and other creative activities such as "Merienda dibujo", a series of meetings with artists that she created in 2011.
She is also a co-founder of the Furioso de Dibujo Festival and has participated in the anthology Informe, an Argentine comic strip of the 21st century , published by the Rosario Municipal Publishing House. She is the author of The painter's hand , a graphic novel about Cándido López (Stealth, 2016, L'Agrume Éditions 2017); Transparent House (Sixth Floor, Iberoamerican Cities Graphic Novel Prize) and Painters News (Sigilo, 2019).
