About the final project for: Dreamy Watercolor Landscapes: Paint with Light

Dreamy Watercolor Landscapes: Paint with Light

“Congratulations! You've completed this course, thank you so much for joining me! It has been a pleasure to share with you some of the tips and tricks that I've learned along my watercolor journey. I hope you enjoyed it and have acquired many new skills. If so, then I'm sure you're excited to start creating many moody landscapes that will be totally your own. Using my tips and tricks in your other projects will help you memorize everything better and add your own twist to those techniques. This way, you'll benefit from this course even more! It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the painting you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand-new project! Remember one thing as you paint—I would like to see your own personal style reflected in your artwork. Learn from as many artists as you can in your watercolor journey, but never try to copy their style 100 %. Being boldly yourself is the greatest thing you can show to the world. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell me if you have any doubts. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. Now, let's recap the main tips I gave you throughout the course: Choose the Paper You need to know what your paper will allow you to do before you start an ambitious project. Sketch the Landscape Keep it very minimal and consider using a water-soluble pencil so that the lines won't be visible on the finished piece.

Prepare the Paper Apply Lifting Preparation medium if you're sure you'll be making lots of corrections or lifting color to create some textures. Once the paper is dry, apply the masking fluid in areas that you want to keep white.
Paint the Layers Let the masking fluid dry. Then, wet the paper and paint the background. Remember to use non-staining or semi-staining colors if your work strongly relies on lifting paint. I suggest keeping the paper towel close by in case you'll use too much water in the process. Use a toothbrush to adjust the amount of pigment in a layer of watercolor when you’re afraid you might destroy it with a brush.
Remove the masking fluid from your painting. Make sure to do so only when the layer of watercolor is completely dry, or you might destroy the paper! Next, spray your work with water if you want to soften some of the edges after the painting has dried—it will make it a lot easier.
Don’t be afraid to experiment! You don't need to plan everything in the beginning—you can (and should) react to what is going on your sheet of paper. For example, plan the placement of the foreground trees once you complete the background. Also, avoid adding too many layers—a watercolor should be quite light.
I can't wait to see the project you come up with, so don't forget to share it on the forum. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it. It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. If, in addition to the Domestika community, you feel like sharing your creations with everyone, you can upload photos of them to Instagram with the hashtag #KmiecikOnDomestika. I'll be more than happy to answer any of the questions you might have along the way! I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, participate in the forum, comment on others' work, and interact with the community. See you there! ”
