There are many ways to pay tribute to a person—with a song, a poem or even a sculpture—but for Víctor Vélez, the best way is with a caricature drawing. Víctor, better known as Chubasco, is passionate about drawing and has more than three decades of experience as an editorial cartoonist, collaborating with the likes of El Universal, El Economista, and other major Mexican publications.

What's included in this course?
Get to know Víctor Vélez as he talks about how he discovered his passion for drawing and how that shaped his career path. He also shares some of his favorite projects and greatest influences.
Take an in-depth look at the materials you can use for your caricature, examining a range of pencils, erasers, and paper, along with the characteristics of each. Then, test them out with a set of exercises on light and shadows.
Learn the basics of facial anatomy and how to draw a face from scratch, starting with the skull and its muscle structure. Move on to drawing the eyes, nose, mouth, teeth and hair before putting them all together to create your first realistic portrait of a celebrity, or the person of your choice.
Now it's time to turn that person into a caricature! Victor shows you how to identify their most salient features and emphasize or distort them to create a sketch; in this case, he uses Freddie Mercury as an example. Continue refining your work and adding details using different drawing tricks and techniques until you've finished your caricature portrait.
