Fine Art Photography: Capture Creative Self-Portraits
“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this course. Thank you so much for joining me. I hope you liked my point of view on self-portrait photography and now feel more confident to explore your own creativity and ideas. Working on my self-portraits has not only helped me in my artistic career but has also improved my self-esteem and self-confidence—two elements that I find necessary for going through this creative process and also for a career as a photographer. It's very important to me that you understand that this course is made to inspire you and to show different ways to express yourself through photography. Everyone will find their way and the language that works best for them. My way is just one example of how to get results that have worked very well for me so far. However, as these are very personal projects, you should take some time to find inspiration and create something unique. Remember, trial and error are necessary to arrive at the ideal solution! The key is practice. Through it, you will learn more about photography and yourself. I have a very specific way of taking my self-portraits, by creating mood boards, working with makeup and props, etc. This does not mean that you should do it the same way. You can also find your own style and workflow by trying out different settings, recreating specific and acted scenes, using artificial lighting or costumes or whatever your imagination takes you. As a reminder, I have summarized the main steps you should take to complete your project: Inspiration and Concept Come up with a creative idea for your self-portraits. Don't be afraid to look for inspiration online. After all, you're learning! You can look for references in the field of art in general, it doesn't have to be only photography, and think about what inspires you. Experimenting with Makeup With your mood board and concept in mind, experiment with makeup as if you were creating a painting. Consider it a medium to express yourself and your idea for the portrait. Then, choose the final makeup for your first photoshoot.
