About the final project for: Drawing Animal Characters with Human Personalities

Drawing Animal Characters with Human Personalities

“Thank you so much for joining me on this course! The technique and tips I have shared are taken directly from my own practice, so I hope you find them helpful and inspiring. It's now time to work on your characters! This could mean finishing the project you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand new one! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Remember, don't rush, give your designs time to grow. Collect ideas, explore, experiment, discard, and overrule. Here are the main steps to follow and a few more tips: Inspiration Think before you draw. Collect references that inspire your design. And please, look at all kinds of different ideas generators, such as architecture, science, art, etc. The Sketch Make a rough plan, start with simple shapes and forms before you start working on details.

Lines and Color Clean up your rough drawings, with no rush. Start creating clean lines, followed by adding the colors on a layer below the characters.
The Scenery Put your characters in a scene which is appealing and fun to look at. Let the characters interact or at least look at each other. The scene doesn't have to be a dramatic or big one. For instance, if you go for a fox and a dragon, let them have a coffee together or let them play video games in the fox's living room or the like.
Lighting and Shading To add shades and light, define a certain point where the light is coming from.
The Final Details Review your linework, edit little imperfections, check if the shadows are in the right place, and add highlights where necessary. Then, compare your final artwork with your early rough drawings and see if there are any details you would like to change.
Don't forget to upload your finished project to the forum! You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". Remember to share both the final result and the steps that have led you to it, adding a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. Domestika has a great community where we all want to grow and learn. You can meet other like-minded creatives! I encourage you to engage with the forum so you can motivate and encourage each other. You can learn things by looking at others' work or questions they have asked along the way. I will be there too as often as I can to give you some feedback and answer your questions. See you soon! ”

“ Final Project Many thanks for joining the course. I'm really happy that you're here. Before you leave, I will give you some final tips for your project. The two most important ones are line follows form and think before you draw. Think before you draw because it creates an image in your head before you even start to draw. The line follows form because the lines form the character or things you draw. It is always a form you draw. The lines make the form visible. You create forms that have volume and space around them. Keep that in mind at every step of the process. Find inspirations for yo...”
