About the final project for: Freestyle Lettering Techniques

Freestyle Lettering Techniques

“That was my class on experimental lettering techniques! Thank you for participating and for your interest. My goal was to arouse your curiosity and willingness to experiment! I hope you had fun and learned something new. The course project consists of creating as many individual lettering works as possible in order to use and combine different techniques and materials. Dare to think differently and try a lot yourself - maybe you like working with different styles, or maybe you find your own personal style through it. I would be very happy if you let this course inspire you and let your own imagination run wild. Now I would like to briefly summarize the techniques I have shown you in this course. Thick Ink With thick ink you can create a lettering on black or colored paper in a slightly wilder style. Use a brush pen or a watercolor brush, add details like splashes of paint and create great textures.

Foam Brush For this you take watercolor or writing ink, or acrylic paint, and stippling brushes in different sizes and shapes. With this technique you can easily work on larger areas.
wet in wet With acrylic ink you can create very strong and fascinating effects. Then you still need watercolors and water. Apply the water first and then drop in the ink - the result will always be different and unpredictable!
Liquid Lettering Working with thick ink creates a 3D-like effect that I find particularly interesting, also with this technique. In this case, the ink is mixed with String Gel.
A slightly modified form of this technique is bubble lettering. Remember to shake the ink really well so there are lots of bubbles; suck up the foam that forms on the surface, and air in between, with a syringe and get started! Digital lettering You can also let off steam creatively digitally. You can digitize your lettering with Procreate and turn it into an AR work.
Upload your individual works to the forum and tell about your experiments. Simply click on "Create your project". Don't forget to take photos of your workflow and share them as well. Do you have doubts, questions or ideas you would like to share? Exchange ideas with the other course participants, get feedback and let yourself be inspired. Of course I will stop by as often as possible to answer your questions and give you tips. Have fun, see you! ”

“final project That was my course on experimental lettering. Thank you for participating. I summarize here what we did together. First we looked at the Thick Ink. Then tried the foam brushes. Then moved on to the wet-on-wet technique and then tried out liquid lettering. Finally, we presented everything digitally in augmented reality. I would be happy if you experiment around yourself, bring your own ideas and if you allow mistakes and just see what can come of it. Upload the projects to the forum and exchange ideas with other course participants. I will be there and give you feedback. Thank ...”

Lettering Artist

Nick, who goes by the stage name Snooze One, began experimenting with graffiti art and lettering at the age of thirteen and has always been fascinated by the creative combination of the two. Back in school, he stamped his own T-shirts with words, sold them, and shared his designs on Instagram. Over time, he focused more and more on the calligraphic aspect and developed his aesthetic towards brush writing. In all of his works, Nick blends calligraphy, lettering, and graffiti, continually experimenting with different styles and tools. Meanwhile, he combines his passion for photography with his graffiti works and records his artistic process for his successful Instagram profile. His lettering appears on pieces for brands like UNATICS , Combo Breaker, and Bad Apple Skateboards. His influences include the Dutch calligraffiti artist Shoe, Nick van Steen (@radical_only), as well as Tyrsa, Felipe Pantone and It's a Living.
