“ The Basic Color Wheel Now, I'll go to the next step towards violet. One of the things to keep in mind as you're mixing your complementary color strip is that you are mixing more parts of each color evenly. For example, when I go to the middle of this strip, I'll be using 50% of each of the colors plus more white and more Burnt Umber as I get to the middle. I'll do the next step. I'll mix in a bit more of the Burnt Umber and a bit more of the violet. I use Titanium White even though it may not seem intuitive. Don Kilpatrick III is an American artist, illustrator, and educator based in Detroit. He received his bachelor’s degree in illustration at Utah State University, and went on to receive a master’s in the same field at Syracuse University. He is currently the department chairman in the Illustration Department at the College for Creative Studies.

Don is also a freelance artist and part of the collaborative project the Detroit Wood Type Co. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States, and has been featured in publications like Fortune, the L.A. Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Other notable projects include designing the Olympic medal for the Winter Games in 2002, as well as designing murals for the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
