About the final project for: Script Writing for Comics: Explore Visual Storytelling

Script Writing for Comics: Explore Visual Storytelling

“Well done! You have reached the end of this Domestika course. Thank you so much for taking part. I hope you learned a lot and are inspired to start visualizing compelling stories and transforming them into comics. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the comic script you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and create a unique project of your own. Before jumping in, I also want to remind you to not rush your work. Take one step at a time and enjoy the process. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way. This will help me understand your creative process and guide you better if you need advice. After all, I'll be in the forum to answer any questions or doubts you might have. Here are the main steps to follow: Choosing the Story Choose the story you want to tell. Breaking Down the Story Break it down on a piece of paper page by page.

Developing the Story Flesh out those scenes, dialogue only.
"Stitching up" the Story "Stitch up" the scenes into script form by incorporating panel and scene descriptions.
Final Touches Finalize the script formatting.
And that's all! I can’t wait to see the project you come up with, so don’t forget to share it in the forum. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". I'll be more than happy to answer any of the questions you might have along the way! I'll try getting back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, participate in the forum, comment on others’ work, and interact with the community! See you there.”

“ Final Project I hope you enjoyed this course as much as I enjoyed teaching it. The creative road is hard and it rewards the patient and stubborn. Most people give up. As long as you keep at it, there's an opportunity to succeed. There are a variety of stories and storytellers out there. There's no reason why one of them can't be you. I can't wait to see the stories you'll come up with in the Forum. I'll pop in often to read your stuff and give feedback. Also, respectfully comment on each other's work. I'll see you in the funny papers.”

Fred Van Lente is a best-selling writer specializing in comic books and graphic novels. He fell in love with the medium as a child, teaching himself to read via comics at four years old and experimenting with drawing his own. He went on to study film at Syracuse University and join the school comics club where he met a group of illustrators and comic book artists. They later moved in together in New York City and set their sights on breaking into the comics industry.

Together, Fred and his university alumni created the crime comic The Silencers which caught the attention of Marvel Comics. He then spent the next decade working for Marvel on comics like The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man Legacy, and Wolverine: First Class. Fred also co-wrote The Incredible Hercules and wrote a how-to book for Random House called Make Comics Like the Pros. He has written comics that have been used for movies such as Cowboys & Aliens, and is a published novelist and playwright.
