About the final project for: Watercolor Techniques for Graphic Design

Watercolor Techniques for Graphic Design

“Congratulations! You've reached the end of this course! Thank you for coming along with me on this journey. It is now time to work on your project. I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Also, make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell me if you have any doubts. This will help me understand your creative process and guide you better if you need advice. These are the steps you need to follow to create your project: Define the idea Come up with a general idea for your logo/poster. For instance, my concept was Brooklyn Folk Festival, but feel free to choose any other topic. Be creative! Once you have decided, consider the direction, imagery, and typography you will use. Do some research and sketch the design! Look at some of your favorite artists and look for inspiration. Then, put your research together and create sketches and/or collage your images with typography on the computer.

Print, trace, and paint First, create a design and print it out. Then, trace your design on watercolor paper with a 4H or 5H pencil. Finally, it's time to paint your design!
Work on the final touches Scan your painting into the computer and touch up your design, make adjustments, or add elements if needed. Then, you can break up the design into layers and import it to Illustrator to color.
Create merchandise mock-ups If you feel creative, you can experiment with merchandise mock-ups and create T-shirts and tote bags!
I am excited to see what you have created! Remember to share your project in the forum. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project." I will respond to your posts and questions as soon as possible. In the meantime, I encourage you to take a look at what others created for this project and comment on their posts, too. See you soon!”

“ Final Project Congratulations, you have reached the end of this course. I hope you enjoyed the experience of making your own design. Now I would like to review some key points of the course with you. Remember it's ok to emulate your favorite artists. If you are creating it, it will always be in your own voice. If you're making mistakes, that means you're learning. We practiced not only to get things right but also to understand what we're getting wrong. Feel free to adjust my methods. You may not have a computer. You can draw freehand, I often draw freehand. If you don't have a light box,...”

Artist and Designer

Glenn Wolk is a New York-based artist and graphic designer with a passion for music. He first studied graphic design, and then an MA in fine arts, which laid the foundation for his signature style. He started his career doing mostly commercial work, but noticed that painting began to take a more prominent role in his imagery. Inspired by the outcome, he left the firm he was at to start his own, Glenn Wolk Design, where he could give free rein to his creativity.

Known for his hand-painted style, Glenn has collaborated with brands such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Sperry Top-Sider, and New Balance. He has also designed posters and merchandise for musicians including Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, The Beatles, Guns N’ Roses, Eminem, and Lady Gaga.
