Narrative Photography: Tell a Community's Story

“Thank you so much for taking part in this course and I hope you've enjoyed it. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the images you started by completing the course tasks or making a brand-new project! Either way, I strongly suggest you take the time to gather inspiration and make a unique project of your own. Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell us if you have any doubts. This will help me guide you better if you need advice. Here are the main steps to follow: Finding Your Voice Think deeply about a topic or subject matter that is really personal or moving to you. The Shot List Roughly plan out your shots using the template I shared in Unit 3. It's okay if you don't have the entire concept figured out. It takes time to define and evolve your point of view—be open to change and embrace the surprises of your creative process.

The Photoshoot Execute your photoshoot! Try to be more aware of the spaces that you inhabit. Actively observe your surroundings. You will be surprised how many cool shooting locations exist around your home and neighborhood. As you capture your images, use your shot list as a reference. However, try to avoid overthinking your images. Let your instinct and your intuition guide you.
Post-production Select, edit, and refine your images in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
Lastly, don't be afraid to share your portfolio with a greater audience. You never know who may see your work or what you might get hired for. And that's all! I can't wait to see the project you've created. What are your takeaways? What did you learn about yourself as a photographer through this entire process? Share some of your thoughts, exercises, and processes in the forum so that I can leave a few notes and comments. Remember to share both the final result of your project and the steps that have led you to it. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". It would be great if you showed a picture of each step and added a brief explanation about what you have done in each one. If you can, please interact and comment on each other's work as well. I'm excited to see some of your work and I wish you the best of luck! See you in the forum! ”
