I've always been inspired by art and craftwork throughout history and especially textile design. One of my favorite artists is William Morris. William Morris was a British textile and wallpaper designer. Most of his work was a reaction to the Industrial Revolution. He was deciding to go back to nature, back to a simpler time where things could be made by hand and not by machines. His work and his influences are important to me, especially the patterns. Hillary Waters Fayle is an artist based in Richmond, Virginia, but originally from Buffalo, New York. She studied textile design at Buffalo State College, and embroidery at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK. She also has a Master’s Degree from the department of craft and material studies at Virginia Commonwealth University
Her work has been widely exhibited and is included in the permanent collections of the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo, NY, the Kalmthout Arboretum & Botanical Gardens in Belgium, the United States Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka and several private collections. She has also taught at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina, the Mediterranean Art & Design Program in Italy, and Yasar University in Turkey.
