In this course you will learn how to make a poster-sized botanical illustration using acrylic paint. Lucila will teach you the basic techniques of drawing, painting and color with simple exercises that will help you to portray your favorite plants and flowers.

The first thing you will do is to learn more about the work of Lucila Domínguez, who will also tell you about the artists she most admires and inspires.

Then you will create a moodboard, which will inspire you to always have at hand the plants you want to draw.

You will do some exercises to know the possible shapes of the leaves and flowers, and in this way you will try to imitate with the pencil the way in which they fall and their movement.

Later you will experiment with acrylic paint, you will let go with the brush and you will discover the different textures that this technique allows to obtain.

Lucila will give you some tips to master the theory of color and you will learn to create volumes with painting through the creation of light and shadow.

Once you have mastered all this, you will make your first composition. Lucila will show you how to create a grid that will be of great help when transferring your paper design to a larger support.

And finally you will apply the color.

You will draw and paint a composition with various types of leaves and flowers that you will first create on paper and later move to a larger scale.

What you need

It is advisable, although not indispensable, to have previous knowledge of drawing.

With regard to the materials you will need: drawing material, brushes, acrylic paints, spatula, palette to mix colors, paper for acrylic paint, a large sheet of kraft paper, a wooden board and painter's tape to fix the paper, and your Favorite flowers and plants to use as a model.

Lucila Dominguez is a painter, illustrator and muralist and has specialized in botanical motifs. In nature and more specifically in plants, Lucila finds inspiration. In his many trips he gathers ideas that he later applies to his compositions, creating unique mixtures with flora from different parts of the world.

He studied Fine Arts and worked with plastic artists and art directors, creating sets for film and advertising. Later he specialized in large-scale works and today muralism has become his favorite way to bring his botanical compositions to life.
