About the final project for: Playful 3D Design and Animation of Fun Objects

Playful 3D Design and Animation of Fun Objects

“We have reached the end of the course. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did and also feel more confident now to create your own 3D softbody animations. Let me remind you the most important steps you have to take in order to design, model, and set up your 3D animated ramen soup for your project. Remember: avoid copying the same exact scene I've created - you should rather look for your own inspiration and experiment. So, first of all, come up with a few ideas for some abstract ramen noodle shapes. Model these shapes in Cinema 4D and UV unwrap the ones you have built. Place all your objects on the floor and try to come up with a first composition. Then you animate your chopsticks and create round, flat, or both kinds of noodles.

Set up your softbody simulations for all the objects, bake them, and convert them as Alembic - now you can create a camera animation. Start working with Redshift: set up your lights and build the shaders of your liking. Afterwards, you can fine-tune everything and make a first render test.
Switch to a final output quality and render an EXR image sequence. Load it in your compositing software (like DaVinci or Adobe After Effects), add sound to your clip, and, finally, output your final result as a MP4 file. Enjoy and have fun looking at your work!
Make sure to keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. Share these pictures and your final animated scene in the forum. You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". You can also upload your final project to social media. If you do, don't forget to tag Domestika (@domestika), Jürgen (@juergenbranz), and myself (@vincentschwenk), so we can see it! Last, let me remind you to also comment on other students' work and help out whenever possible - working together can be very useful and inspiring. I'll be reviewing your work too, and I'll give you feedback and advice as often as I can. I'm looking forward to seeing your creation! Thanks again for joining me. See you in the forum!”

Partial transcription of the video

“ Final Project You've come to the end of my course, and I really want to thank you for participating. I really hope that you learned something about 3D, about design, and about how to set up your own soft body simulations. To quickly summarize this, I will go through all the steps I showed you. First of all, we came up with some ideas for this abstract ramen noodle soup, and we started to create a mood board in Miro together. After that, we started to continue to draw some of these ideas and some of the shapes in Procreate. Later on, we used these as a reference to remodel them in Cinema 4...”
