Do you already have your own library of inspiring images or ideas? If not, try gathering everything that sparks curiosity, that you find inspiring and that you’d like to explore in your work. 2. Find an animal that interests you. This will be the main character of your illustration. Think about what this animal could do? Where is it? Try finding an environment and a situation in which to place your character. How will it affect the character? Does it enjoy its environment? Does it interact with it? Who else is there? 3. Make some sketches! Be messy, don’t worry if your sketch isn’t “Pinterest perfect”! While you draw, remember the composition rules we’ve talked about. Will your sketch follow them? Does the composition influence the scene and serve your storytelling goal? Remember not to follow my illustration too closely. Rather, find a character that you like the most or that you wish to explore. This will help you develop your own narrative and make the illustration entirely your own.
