About the final project for: Oil Painting: Create Surreal Landscapes

Oil Painting: Create Surreal Landscapes

“You have reached the end of the course! Thanks for being part of this adventure, I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I did. It’s been quite amazing to be able to share experiences and knowledge with you. Hopefully, now you feel ready to start your own adventure by painting your own “all-seeing eye” floating over some beautiful mountains or over whatever you imagine. It’s your painting, your turn! Let me show you an example of what I want to see as your final project: First Steps Select the landscape and the eye references you will use. Paint the underpainting with a few colours, primarily earth tones.

The Eye After your composition is completely dry, paint the final layer starting with the eye, while doing this, apply a thicker body of paint and use more contrast between colours.
The Landscape Paint your landscape, starting with the sky and the mountains. Remember to blend the eye between the clouds.
Finish Your Artwork Paint the rest of the landscape, creating different textures in the trees and rocks that appear in the front ground. While you are finishing all the elements in your composition, add the final details. Then, after waiting at least two or three weeks, you can varnish your painting. Remember to do this in a well-ventilated room!
I deeply thank you for taking the time to work on my side while we explored the wonderful world of oil paint. Remember, you can always review any of our lessons and explore other ideas for your paintings. That’s what surrealism is all about, giving wings to your imagination. Surrealism is not just a painting style or technique, it’s an art movement related to your deepest thoughts, dreams, and unconsciousness! Please, enjoy every minute and accept the little mistakes. If you’re painting like a robot, you won’t feel happy at all. If you feel like taking a break, that’s fine, you are working with oil paints, they’ll take some time to dry, so get back to painting when you feel like it. I will be waiting to see your final project and I will be giving you feedback but please, be patient. It could take some time before I answer you. Meanwhile, you can see your classmates' projects and discover other worlds and dreams through their artwork. See you soon! And remember, everything is beautiful, it’s all in the eyes of the beholder.”

“Final Project Congratulations. We reached the end of this Domestika course. I hope you had fun and you learned a lot of new things. It's time you paint your surreal artwork in oils. Before that, I want to give you some tips. First, don't put too much pressure on yourself. Painting should be a great way to relax. Remember creating a special relation with your materials. They are as important as your imagination because they create a connection between your mind and the canvas. Take care of your brushes, especially if you'll not use them for a while. Remember to wash them, there are special s...”
