Illustrated Diary: Fill Your Sketchbook with Experiences
“And this is how we have reached the end of our course, now you have all the necessary tools to fill your own vital diary. I propose that for a month you fill your notebook with the maximum amount of objects, places and situations of your day to day. Create your own series and do not forget to add dates, names and all the information that you can think of. You will see that when you browse it you will relive the exact moment you drew. First of all, choose a notebook and the calibrated markers of your choice. Look at the simple objects that surround you, with daily practice you can increase the complexity of your drawings, the most important thing is that you avoid frustration so that you will want to try again the next day. Remember that our intention is not to make a masterpiece every day, on the contrary, it is to capture moments and objects that can be remembered in the future. Before saying goodbye, we are going to recall the steps of the final project, in this case the different exercises that we have been doing together during the course. It would be great if you briefly explain what you have done in each one and accompany the explanation with one or more images. Pencil drawing and inking of different motifs As we have seen during the course, when you have chosen what you are going to draw, you can create some basic pencil lines to frame the scene or object within your page and when you are satisfied with the frame, it will be time to move your drawing to ink. I would like you to show me the different drawings that you have made during the course: the tonal squares with which you practiced crosshatching in Unit 2 (or geometric figures, if you dared to do so), the drawing of an everyday element and the series of objects you drew in Unit 3, the everyday scene in Unit 4, and the landscape in Unit 5.

I hope I’ve been able to awaken in you the passion I feel for collecting memories through drawing. As we've seen, sketchbook journals are full of experiences and memories. These are individual and non-transferable. For this reason, I invite you to do yours. We will go over the important points so you can create your final project. First of all, get a sketchbook and some technical markers. Make sure you include a very fine marker and a very thick one. If ...”

A course by David Morales
David Morales is a Colombian architect and notebook artist based between Barcelona and his hometown, Ibagué. It was in architecture school that he began drawing in his notebook, trying to understand the proportions and material quality of buildings that he found interesting. Gradually, these notebooks became an inseparable element of his travels and his architectural work.
In 2018 he started an art project called "One Day One Drawing" in which he depicts his surroundings, family, and concerns on a daily basis. He has also created book covers for the publishing house Planeta (Spain) and for Taller Talante (Colombia).
