About the final project for: Analog Flash Photography for Expressive Portraits

Analog Flash Photography for Expressive Portraits

“Well done! You have now reached the end of my Domestika course. I hope you've enjoyed it and feel ready to grab your camera to start capturing beautiful moments. Flash photography can be practiced anywhere, so there will be plenty of opportunities to apply what you've learned. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Before I say goodbye, I'm going to run through the steps of this course to ensure that you're well-equipped for the final project. First, buy or rent your camera and purchase the film. Use the advice I shared in Unit 2 to inform your choice.

Next, cast your subject. Advertise online using the links I shared in "Preparing for Your Shoot", or simply by going out into the streets and actively seeking out interest. I recommend asking questions to your subjects to discover more about their story. If their story takes your interest or is in line with your project, the more invested you'll both be. Use the template I shared in Unit 2 to sketch out your compositions. Think about colours, pose, props, and location. This will help you to remain efficient on the shoot day. However, when it comes to shooting, don't focus all your attention on achieving your planned shots. Be flexible and channel any flashes of inspiration. Furthermore, always be aware of how your subject is feeling and make sure they are relaxed. Try to connect with them as much as possible. Once finished, find your local lab and develop your photos!
Finally, work through the selection process to choose your best photos. Then, share your work on social media.
I'd love to see what you produce, so don't be afraid to share your work. You can do this by following the above link "Create your project." I'll be waiting to receive you in the forum, alongside a community of other photography enthusiasts! Of course, I'll do my best to respond. However, don't feel discouraged if there's a delay. Use this as an opportunity to connect with your fellow students; offer praise and advice and fuel each other's passion! See you there.”

“ Final Project Thank you so much for spending this time with me and learning film photography with a flash. You could've been at many other places and you were here with me. Remember that flash photography can be practiced almost anywhere and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Trial and error is part of film photography and sometimes the biggest mistakes end up being the best photos, so go out there and have fun with it. Remember, your project doesn't have to be similar to mine. At the end of the day, as long as there's heart in it and you're truly looking at the story you want to tell as a...”
