“ Printmaking In our previous lesson, we refined our sketch. In this lesson, I will show you some printmaking techniques. Now that we have a refined sketch, I am going to share with you my illustration technique. The one I use the most to finalize an image. Since I like working with shapes more than I like working with linework, I'm going to identify all the shapes that are forming my image. Cecilia Ruiz is a Brooklyn-based author, illustrator, and graphic designer from Mexico City. Growing up in a family of creatives meant she was encouraged to explore her artistic side from a young age. Inspired by her aunt, in particular, who was a graphic designer, she went on to study a degree in the subject before working as a graphic designer herself for a number of years. After initially working in web design, she shifted to the world of editorial design where she discovered a love of telling stories through images. Cecilia completed a diploma in illustration in Mexico City and later moved to New York to study for a master's in illustration at the School of Visual Arts.
After graduating, she published her first book with Penguin Random House, The Book of Memory Gaps. Since then, she’s written and illustrated two other books and collaborated with clients including Google, The New York Times, Atlas Obscura, and Fast Company. She and her work have also been featured by publications like Design Sponge, DART Sketchbooks, and more.
