Nati Dorado, or Virreinata, starts the course by talking you through her professional career to date, her main influences from before she devised the 2D amigurumi concept, and some that continue to inspire her work today.
Next, have a look at a comparison between your teacher's technique and the traditional Japanese one, as well as the materials needed for your final project. Discover the creative process and how to transform the initial design into a diagram that serves as your stitching guide.
Now it's time to make your doll! Learn how to do the base chain stitch and shape out the body and legs using basic stitches. Work through assembling the various parts and filling your amigurumi, then sew on beads for the eyes.
Add an extra helping of personality by embroidering some fun details. Virreinata shows you the technique she uses to give a unique twist to each of her creations by repeating and combining just two movements. To round out the course, she gives you some ideas on different uses for your amigurumis as well as tips for looking after them.

2D amigurumi is a crochet technique for making flat dolls, unlike traditional amigurumi which is three-dimensional. In 2D, grids, increases, and decreases are used to shape characters on a flat surface.
This is an intermediate-level course, so it’s best to have basic crochet and amigurumi skills before enrolling to get the most out of the techniques taught.
You’ll need a crochet hook, combed cotton yarn, siliconized fiberfill for stuffing, stitch markers, beads for eyes, scissors, and a pencil for sketching. Having a varied color palette is recommended.
You’ll learn how to design original patterns, create crochet grids, combine colors, apply embroidery and sewing techniques, and personalize flat characters with your own unique style and details.
The course teaches how to transfer sketches and drawings onto crochet grids, plan increases and decreases, and use standard graphic symbols to develop original flat character patterns.
It’s not essential, since the focus is on the foundation chain and techniques to start flat pieces, though knowing the magic ring can be helpful for future projects.
Techniques taught include half double crochet in front and back loops, increases and decreases, foundation chain, slip knot, invisible seam, detail embroidery, and assembling pieces and accessories.
