About the final project for: Layout for VFX, Camera Narrative and Language

Layout for VFX, language and camera narrative

“ I want that, using a camera that records video (that can perfectly be the one of your mobile phone) or a program of 3D, you design the different planes that conform a sequence of your choice between these options:

  • A joke, fable or saying that you like
  • The story included in a song lyrics
  • A scene from a novel or short story
  • A story invented by you
Make sure that the story you choose to tell does not come from a graphic source, so as not to have visual biases. If you choose a scene from a movie, a painting or a comic you will tend to recreate things as you have already seen them. That's why I recommend that the story you want to tell is literary, popular or invented. It does not have to be a very long or complex sequence. It can be a single plane if you think that with it you express enough information and emotion. What I want is for you to perform a "blocking" of the plane or planes that you decide to undertake, that is, to design the framing, the composition, the position and movement of the camera and the position of the character (or the characters). It is not necessary to pay attention to the props, costumes, lighting or interpretation. What I want is for you to weigh the options that affect how the camera behaves and what elements are in front of it and what reasons your choices. What values do you want to tell, what information do you want to give and what emotion to transmit and look for the best way to do it with what you have learned in this course. If you want to record it live you can use friends or relatives as the figures of your characters, and shoot it in your common environment. If you prefer to do it in digital 3D you can use some elements that we have provided in this course as additional elements or look for your own resources. And if you have any other idea that you think serves your purposes better, go ahead. We will all be happy to see your creative results. If you decide to mount a sequence of more than one scene you will need to mount your movie. Any simple video editing software will be worth it. In this case, think about how the plans placed one after the other dialogue and what information and emotion each one transmits. You can do it as simple or as complex as you wish. I only ask you why your choices when framing, composing and moving your camera. For everything else you have absolute creative and narrative freedom. Surprise us! If you want to know more about video editing this Domestika course can come in handy: Production and editing of video with camera DSLR and Adobe Premiere If you want to learn about audiovisual editing I recommend this other Domestika course: Professional audiovisual montage with Adobe Premiere Pro --- Well, dear students, we have already reached the end of this course on Layout in VFX and narrative camera language. I hope you found it instructive and interesting. For me it has been a pleasure to tell you some things that I have learned in my years of experience in this profession that I love so much. Thank you very much for your assistance and enthusiasm. We read in forums and networks. ”

“Welcome to this last lesson of layout and camera work. Next, we make a brief summary of what was learned. The first thing I've shown you is what consists of the department's layout work in visual effects. Later, we have enumerated and defined some fundamental concepts in layout, such as the camera to the set, the tracking camera, or the Plate. I've also told you about how works when there's no real image, the Full CG Shot. We have then put into practice all these theories and concepts opening a layout scene in Maya. Next, we've worked on a second Maya scene where we've learned how to do cam...”
