About the final project for: Natural Yarn Dyeing

Natural dyes for yarn

“We have reached the end of this Domestika course. I want to thank you for following my lessons and making this journey with me. I hope you have learned all the steps necessary to unleash your creativity by experimenting with natural dyes. Now is the time to share your final project with the whole community! I show you how to do it, so you can see all the steps in your creative process. Choose the fiber you prefer, prepare the skein, tie it and weigh it to note the WOF. Wash it.

Prepare a custom etching bath for your skein. Soak it after having thoroughly soaked and squeezed it.
Prepare the dye bath by extracting it from the selected dye material.
Dip the etched skein after soaking and squeezing it. Dye it according to your needs and let it come back to room temperature. Wash it and let it dry.
Pierce the cataloging card after printing it and fix the threads of your skein, noting the recipe with which you obtained it next to each color.
I look forward to admiring your creation and engaging in constructive conversations about all of our work. I will try to be as present as possible in the forum to be able to give you feedback and get to know us better. Soon!”

Textile Artist, Knitter, and Dyer

Lucrezia Moro is a textile artist born in Rome who now lives in the countryside far from the capital. She began participating in a sustainability and natural food project at 20 years old and decided to leave the city to live closer to nature. In doing so, she discovered the world of natural dyeing and took some introductory courses to learn the basics. At 29, she transformed this interest into a full-blown career by devoting herself to dyeing and making knit garments.

Lucrezia later founded her own brand, Bilulu, which specializes in naturally dyed hand-knit clothing. She also shares her knowledge of knitting, dyeing, embroidery, and mending by teaching classes to others eager to learn. She recently launched her second clothing collection dyed 100% with native, seasonal plants.
