About the final project for: Modern Portraiture with Procreate: Stylize Your Subject

X Digital Realistic Portraiture

“Thank you for choosing my course in digital realistic portraiture with Procreate. We have reached the end of the course and now you should be ready to start your own final project. But before I say goodbye, let’s go over all the steps again. Decide on what portrait you want to draw. Convert it to black and white.

Import the photo into Procreate, lower the opacity, and begin to map out the key features of the face to create a crude but crucial foundation for producing an accurate resemblance of the model. Take that sketch and add anatomical features to give the image more substance and depth to work further down the line.
Begin the drawing by selecting a few preferred pencil tools on Procreate. Begin with the left eye with a heavier pencil slowly growing outwards to other darker and sharper features. Take the lighter pencil tool and go back over what you have done so far and blend the lighter areas. Using the eraser tool, begin to identify the light sources and how the anatomical map underneath can be used to highlight them.
Once you have completed the drawing, remove the sketch layer and leave it alone for an hour or thereabouts then return to it. Notice immediately where your eye is drawn to with the portrait in comparison with the original photograph. Make these amends.
Make a few copies of the portrait in other layers as backups. Experiment with the different brushes and see what works to add ink and graphic elements to give the portrait some real pop.
Remember that you can also learn from the other students. Share your tips and experiences in the forum, and I will check in from time to time to answer your questions. It’s been a real pleasure to share my work and my process with you and I’m looking forward to seeing what you will make for your final project. See you! ”

“Final Project Thanks for choosing my course in digital realistic portraiture using Procreate. We have ended the course and now you should be ready to start your own final project. But before I say goodbye, let's go over all the steps again. Begin by preparing your source photograph. It doesn't have to be the highest quality, but it has to be something that you are attracted to, something you really like about it. Start by mapping out the portrait's features on a separate layer, extract all the information that you need from the photograph, and this will give you the basis, for understanding...”
