About the final project for: Ceramic Modeling and Illustration with Watercolor

Ceramic Modeling and Illustration with Watercolor

“You have reached the end of the course! Thank you very much for choosing it. Remember to practice as many times as you can; do a lot of drawing exercises, learn to calibrate the line with the brushes. Try creating your own colors, experiment with washes, dare to create different pieces from the ones you've seen on Pinterest or Instagram. This is your time to start a new adventure and create your own final project. As I told you, a great start to publicize your work is to take advantage of the Domestika platform. So I share with you an example of how I would like to see your final project of the course: The mood board and the phrase Look for characters in which you want to be inspired and create a mood board, you can make a list with the qualities that you want your character to have. Also, look for some phrases that catch your attention and that you want to accompany your characters. Take your time, don't rush your process, so you can choose something that really makes you feel.

The sketch and calligraphy Make the sketch of the characters that you will illustrate in your pieces. Try to do different scenarios so that you can choose the one you like the most, also, so you can choose one that goes according to the phrase you chose. This is also the time to work on the phrase you will make, if you prefer you can use any internet typeface that you like, the most important thing is that you like it.
Work with clay Work with the clay to create your pieces, you can make a plate, a bowl or whatever you imagine with the techniques that I taught you.
Transfer your sketch to your pieces Here begins a large part of the adventure. Transfer your sketch to the pieces and apply the combination of colors that you have chosen from your color palette, wait for them to dry and prepare everything to take your pieces to the first burn.
Final details With the illustration incorporated into your piece, it is time to carry out the enamelling so that you can use them. Leave your pieces to dry completely for 1 or 2 days so that it does not retain any moisture from the enamel before taking them to their second burn. And voila, your pieces can now be used!
Make your project with different characters than the ones I worked on in this course. The important thing is that your pieces have your personal stamp and a particular meaning for you. I invite you to actively participate in the forum, comment on the work of your colleagues and interact with the community. In this way, we are all enriched by the contributions of others. I will be waiting to see your final project to give you feedback, but I ask you to be patient. Remember that I will be in the forum to help you with any questions that may arise along the way. I will be waiting to see your final project, do not stop sharing it. See you soon on the forum!”

Illustrator and Ceramic Artist

Claudia María Gutiérrez, @cayagutierrez, is an illustrator and ceramic artist who originally studied social communication, a profession she practiced for several years. She has illustrated books for multiple publishing houses, completed illustration commissions for public and private organizations, and undertaken many personal projects. While looking for ways to transfer her own drawings onto objects, she discovered the fascinating universe of ceramics, an ancient craft with infinite possibilities. Since then, she has merged the two worlds together.

She won the 2011 Tragaluz Illustration Award (Colombia), was a runner-up at the 2013 Latin American Ilustración -LAI2- competition (USA), got a special mention from the jury of the 2013 Ibero-American Illustration Award (Argentina), and participated in the 2015 Bratislava Illustration Biennial.
