“So now I'm reaching the center of my weave. As I can see here, i've got 16 pairs, and my center one will be number 17. And what I want to be sure of at this point is that I can see my center line and that first half of that next pair. Is going to be on this side of that line and the second one is going to be on that side. So you're basically splitting that central pair. Right on your center line mark. And mine looks good, but if you find that you're a little bit beyond that center line at this point, what you can do is pack it down and put it on the other side. You can actually open it up. ...”

Heide Martin is a designer specializing in furniture and houseware. After graduating with two degrees in landscape architecture and urban design, she realized that her true passion lay in making things by hand. Inspired by her hobby and her carpenter husband, Heide went on to study an intensive woodworking course where she honed her skills.
Since then she’s worked with brands including Laura Mercier, contributed to Fine Woodworking Magazine, and started her own studio alongside her husband where she practices her passion for handmade woven surfaces. Heide has also been a resident and visiting artist at San Diego State University, Maine College of Art and Design, and more. As well as selling and exhibiting her work internationally, she has taught furniture design at Escuela de Artes y Oficios Santo Domingo, and assistantships at the University of Washington and Center for Furniture Craftsmanship.
