About the final project for: Botanical Tattoo Design with Procreate

Botanical Tattoo Design with Procreate

“Congratulations for making it till the finalunit of this course. Hopefully, you now have the necessary skills to create your own floral tattoo designs. Let's do a quick overview of the main steps you should follow for your project: Choose your references Grab a camera or your phone because this the perfect reason to go outside. If there is no botanical garden just take a walk out in nature or look at what people have growing in front of their houses. Take some reference photos from different angles as I have shown you and use them for your own unique design. Buy yourself a bouquet and photograph all the different flowers or even live draw them. Going outside or surrounding yourself with flowers/plants will give you a lot of inspiration and happiness.

Make a rough sketch As I have shown you in the course, you can practice on a friend or on yourself to understand the natural flow of the body better. Take some photos and make rough sketches for different parts of the body. Just have fun with the process and keep it very rough to practice your feeling for flow. Through practicing you will develop a better feeling for the body and it’s structure and it will become natural to implement it in your designs.
Draw a more detailed sketch When you’re happy with your flow sketch try going more into detail. Do you want to give it some meaning? How about looking into the meaning of the flowers and consider what would match your or your customers personality? Play around with the thickness of the lines considering what I told you before. Maybe you want to give it an art nouveau look or you going for something more realistic? Find your personal preferences.
Colors Here comes the fun part. Work out your colour palette and try it on your design. Use your favourite colours or pick a colour scheme from your favourite movie. You don’t have to stick to the real colours of the flowers that you’re drawing. This is art so you have all the freedom to do whatever feels and looks right to you using the Knowledge of colour theory.
Stencil You and your client are happy with the design? Perfect! Then you’re ready for one of the most important parts of the tattoo. Making sure that the stencil size is right and the placement and the placement is good is the main key for a well executed tattoo. Take your time and adjust the stencil or even the drawing if necessary. Going back to your drawing after you already tried the stencil on the skin is totally fine and shows that you want the design to fit perfectly. Don’t forget that you draw on a two-dimensional iPad or paper but use it for a three-dimensional canvas. Some parts may need to be bigger on the drawing to look the same on the skin.
I hope through this course I could teach you some techniques to develop your own unique design or even style. No matter if you work with or without colour or want to use it on a different body part or don’t even want to draw a tattoo but another kind of art project. Get inspired and enjoy the beauty that nature provides us to boost your creativity. Post your results and go into exchange with the other students. Talking to other artists is always a great chance to learn even more and become better and to help others grow too. As I have a lot of appointments I won’t be able to check in all the time but I am very excited to see your results and give you feedback on it. Thank you from my heart for doing this course and I wish you the best on your artistic journey no matter where it takes you. Kisses and much love, Jen ”
