About the final project for: Artistic Floral Watercolor: Connect with Nature

Artistic Floral Watercolor: Connect with Nature

“We have now reached the end of this course! Thank you so much for your interest in learning more about the art of painting in watercolor. I hope it was enjoyable for you and it sparked your interest in painting even more! When starting your final project, don't forget to plan out your composition. You can make a small thumbnail sketch, marking the darker parts of the painting. Making an effort to achieve a good composition will improve your painting considerably―but don't worry if your final artwork eventually goes in a slightly different direction! I suggest picking your colors for the final project and then running a few color experiments while mixing them. Have your mixes in front of you while painting. This way, you will know what to expect when the color dries out.

Tape your paper to the board and you can start! You can either wet your paper first to add some wet-on-wet color, or you can skip this step. Whatever the case, I suggest having a clear plan on how you want to start. I personally like starting with my darkest paints and working my way up while rinsing the brush. Of course, you can also start by placing the blooms first―there's really no right or wrong! Another thing: I personally don't do this, but there's nothing wrong about having a pencil sketch beforehand! It might even help you in case you suffer from a fear of the blank paper. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable! When finishing your first layer, try to stop before having too many things on your surface. Once the layer is dry, you will be able to add more things if you want to. On the other hand, you can never go back in the other direction.
Once your first layer is dry, it's time to evaluate your work and fix any problems that might appear. Add more layers where you want darker parts, as watercolor tends to fade once dry. You can also add transparent layers to add some beautiful effects and provide even more dimension. Maybe you even want to cover some mistakes if needed. Basically, this is the step in which you give your composition its final look.
My favorite step is the last one: adding a bit of personality to your painting! Cool details made of watercolor or other mediums will really bring your painting to life! Whether it be abstract marks, splashes, or interesting textures: This is the time to make the most out of your creative freedom.
Once you're happy with your painting, I'd love to see it in the forum to offer advice and encouragement whenever there's some free time on my hands! Click on the button "Create your project" to upload images and descriptions. Of course, you can also post some photos of your final artwork on social media using the hashtag #IngaBuividaviceDomestika. Again, thank you so much for your participation―it was a pleasure to be your teacher. See you in the forum!”

“Final Project We have reached the end of this course and I would love to review with you everything we've learned. Remember the great trick to keep you painting is to have your supplies always ready. Paint, paper and brushes are very personal. You may have multiple brushes, but narrow your choices a lot. Same with watercolour. I'd recommend you do not spend a lot of money on the supplies, especially if you're beginning. Make sure you have a few colours, brushes in different sizes and cheap paper to practise. Whenever you are ready to attempt a painting, buy artist-grade watercolour paper. I...”
